Leeds pre-school provides a foundation for learning both socially and academically. It’s an opportunity to learn to share, follow instructions, and begin the foundation for learning that will occur in the primary school.
Our pre-school is designed to provide a secure, happy and an interesting experience for all children.
The Play–Way method is followed in introducing colours, letters and numbers. English, Math and Sinhala are taught as subjects while the kids learn about the environment through various activities. Circle–time is given high priority in the Pre School section to effectively engage with all students and to raise kids’ awareness of many topics through activities such as storytelling, chart reading, show and tell, life lessons, etc.
Themed days & weeks (Colour Day, Flower Week) are organized to introduce different concepts. The kids practice good manners, healthy eating habits, table manners and other social skills during this stage. All these activities assist in developing their fine motor and life skills.
Our kids visit public places with the teachers to get a better understanding of what they hear and learn in class.
Physical education is incorporated into weekly timetable and is aimed at developing kids’ gross motor skills. This is also encouraged through events such as the ‘Kiddies Day’. The kids also receive swimming lessons during school hours. Karate is introduced after school hours for kindergarten kids.
Music, dancing, arts and crafts are other key areas followed in the curriculum to stimulate their interest in art and creativity.
By the end of their Pre School stay, our kids are more independent in managing themselves, following instructions and are comfortable in different social environments. They are also capable of basic reading and writing skills and are capable of understanding and conversing in English.

The school’s primary learning plans focus on literacy, numeracy & well-being. Leeds primary school has high expectations for all students regarding their social, emotional and achievement standards. Leeds is committed to continuous improvement and achieving excellence in teaching and learning at every level. Our curriculum provides stimulating and flexible learning programs designed to meet students’ individual needs.
In Primary 1 and 2, the kids hone their reading and writing skills. More sports and other co-curricular activities are introduced for those interested. Teaching styles are similar to Pre School, with two teachers in a class to ensure smooth progression to the primary school and to provide individual attention to each child’s development. Circle time, field visits and physical education activities are continued as in Pre School.
English, Math, Sinhala, Science, Environmental Studies, ICT and Religion are taught from Primary 1 to 3 and English Literature is introduced from Primary 4 upwards. Subject teachers are introduced from Primary 3 where the children begin to gain more subject-specific and theoretical knowledge.
Weekly assemblies and outdoor activities are organized to encourage students to build their confidence. The children get to express their ideas and views and in doing so, they also discover their hidden talents.
Students are introduced to clubs & societies from Primary 3 upwards and are prepared for various contests such as speech, dancing, singing, art and sport. Our teachers help and train students to achieve ranks with medals and trophies.
Student evaluation becomes more formal from this stage onwards with the introduction of the Mid Term and Term examinations. These evaluations support the schools’ free remedial and extra support class system and enables continuous development of the child via the capabilities identified.

The secondary section focuses on building competencies that would help the students to be successful in any walk of life they select for their future. Knowledge, attitude and skill development together with helping them to form a vision for their lives help them to build their academic and social confidence. Leeds secondary school is proud to form leaders in different walks of life.
The lower secondary section consists of classes from Form 1 to Form 3 which prepares the students with the foundation needed for advanced learning; and Form 4 to O/L where the students thoroughly cover the O/L syllabus across 3 years.
The upper secondary section prepares the students for their Advanced Level (A/L) examinations. Students go through two years of learning for A/L in Form 6 and Form 7.
We prepare our students for Edexcel IGCSE, AS and A Levels.
Pearson Edexcel International GCSEs are versions of the UK Ofqual regulated GCSEs, with content and assessment designed specifically for international learners. Designed to be engaging, internationally appropriate and of equivalent standard to the GCSE, IGCSEs provide students with the skills and knowledge they will need to successfully progress to A Levels, onto university and into employment.
These qualifications have been designed in collaboration with subject experts, teachers and university professors, to ensure that the content and assessment methods are appropriate and will enable successful progression for learners.
We also offer the National Curriculum in selected branches, for those who wish to study the Government Curriculum in English medium. The National Curriculum is introduced from Grade 9 upwards.
We conduct a special student and parent briefing session to inform our parents and students about the options available for them in moving on to upper secondary education and in selecting their subjects for final examinations. This session provides the necessary guidance and information about progression to university, opportunities available through vocational and professional qualifications and possible career pathways.
You may contact and visit the branch for more details regarding your child’s secondary education.
